Sharm El Sheikh Entry Restrictions for CIS Citizens in 2026
Documents and visas6 min read

We go through the entry rules for Sharm El Sheikh by citizenship: what is confirmed, what has been announced for citizens of Uzbekistan from 1 November 2026, and what is known only from embassies and tour operators.
What the Sinai stamp is and where it is valid
Sharm El Sheikh is on the Sinai Peninsula, and the Sinai resorts have long had a special regime. Tourists who fly directly into Sharm airport can get a free Sinai stamp (Sinai only) instead of a regular visa.
The stamp is valid only in the Gulf of Aqaba resorts: Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba. It allows up to 15 days, but many tour operators advise planning no more than 14 nights. You cannot travel to Cairo, Hurghada or Luxor on this stamp.
Who gets the stamp and on what terms depends on citizenship. For Central Asian countries the rules changed several times in 2025 and 2026, so below we go through them country by country.
What changes for citizens of Uzbekistan from 1 November
On 8 October 2026 the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Cairo announced that from 1 November citizens of Uzbekistan will need a visa obtained in advance through an Egyptian diplomatic mission. The Uzbek Foreign Ministry told journalists that this also applies to Sharm El Sheikh and other Sinai resorts.
Until now, tourists from Uzbekistan arriving on charter flights could holiday in Sinai without a visa for up to 14 nights. For Cairo, Hurghada and Luxor a visa already had to be obtained in advance at the Egyptian embassy in Tashkent.
According to the embassy, the conditions will be as follows:
- Tourist trips only through authorised tour operators.
- Tourists under 40 may travel only with close relatives (parents, a spouse, children), and the family must carry at least 5,000 US dollars in cash.
- Those over 40 travelling on their own must carry at least 3,000 US dollars in cash.
- At the border you will be asked for a hotel booking, mobile phone details and proof of funds.
- A tourist visa cannot be changed to another type of visa inside Egypt.
- Without the full set of documents you may be refused entry and sent back on the same airline.
What is not yet confirmed
As of 11 October 2026, the Egyptian authorities have not published an official document with these conditions. All the details come from the Embassy of Uzbekistan and from the answer the Uzbek Foreign Ministry gave to journalists.
We found no official reports that the same conditions (the age of 40, cash amounts) are being introduced for citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan or Russia. If chats say otherwise, check with the Egyptian embassy in your country or with the embassy of your country in Cairo.
Do not pay for a tour in November or later until the tour operator confirms in writing that the trip meets the new requirements.
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan
Since 22 August 2025 for citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, and since 1 October 2025 for citizens of Kazakhstan, there has been an age restriction. Those under 21 are admitted only together with both parents or one of them. According to tour operators, travelling with a grandmother, an uncle or an older brother is not accepted even with notarised consent.
The Kazakh Foreign Ministry has said that adult citizens of Kazakhstan can get a visa on arrival only at Sharm El Sheikh airport, if the trip lasts no more than 15 days and stays within the resort. For Cairo, Hurghada and other cities the visa is obtained in advance at the Egyptian embassy.
For those flying on a ticket only, without a package tour, tour operators advise getting a visa in advance at the Egyptian embassy. It requires clearance from the Egyptian security service, and the wait can sometimes take several weeks. Tour operators also remind citizens of Kyrgyzstan about mandatory registration after arrival.
Russia and other CIS countries
For citizens of Russia the procedure in Sharm is unchanged: you can get a free Sinai stamp for up to 15 days. If you need a regular visa, you buy it at the airport on arrival. Since 1 March 2026 it has cost 30 dollars instead of 25, as reported by the Association of Tour Operators of Russia.
Citizens of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova are on the official list of countries eligible for the Egyptian e-visa. Citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan are not on this list.
How to travel from Sharm to Cairo or Hurghada
The Sinai stamp does not allow you to leave the peninsula. There are police checkpoints on the roads, and documents are checked for every passenger.
Russian citizens planning an excursion to Cairo will find it easier to buy a visa at the airport instead of taking the stamp. Tour operators also describe replacing the stamp with a visa later, for a separate fee.
According to tour operators, citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan cannot replace the Sinai stamp with a visa. They get a visa on arrival for a trip to the mainland only if an excursion to Cairo or Luxor has been bought in advance from a tour operator who has prepared a letter of guarantee. So plan such a trip before you fly.

If you already live in Egypt
The announcement by the embassy concerns entry into the country. It says nothing about those who already live in Egypt on a student or other residence permit.
If you travel to Sharm from Cairo by bus or plane, take your original passport with a valid visa or residence permit: a copy is not always accepted at Sinai checkpoints. The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Cairo also advises always carrying your original passport and never missing renewal deadlines.
What to check before the trip
- Your citizenship and type of trip: a package tour with a hotel or just a ticket.
- Age. Citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan under 21 need a parent with them, and for citizens of Uzbekistan conditions have been announced from November for everyone under 40.
- Length of stay. The Sinai stamp allows no more than 15 days, and overstaying means a fine on departure.
- Route. Decide in advance whether you will travel outside Sinai.
- Current rules. They are published by the Egyptian embassy in your country and by your Foreign Ministry, and the tour operator confirms the terms of the tour.
How Tullab can help
In the documents and visas section Russian-speaking specialists offer translations and help with paperwork, and in tours and excursions you can find trips around Sinai. Look for transfers from Cairo to the coast in transfers and taxis.
