How to Send a Parcel from Egypt to Russia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan
Everyday life4 min read

You can send a parcel home with a traveller, through cargo or by post. Here is how these options differ, what you can put inside and how to deal safely with a stranger.
What are the ways to send a parcel from Egypt
Most people use three options and often combine them, sending documents with a traveller and a heavy box through cargo.
- A traveller. Someone flying to your city puts the parcel in their luggage. It is fast and often cheaper, but it takes trust on both sides.
- Cargo. A company collects parcels from many customers and ships them together, usually by air. The price is usually per kilogram, and delivery takes weeks.
- Post and couriers. Your shipment gets a tracking number. A courier is faster and more expensive, while post is cheaper but slower.
How to choose the right option
Documents, keys or a small gift are easiest to send with a traveller, since the parcel flies on the same plane as the person. But you need someone for a specific date and city, and the weight is limited to what they agree to take.
Cargo works better for heavy shipments, such as your belongings after graduation. Ask in advance how weight is calculated, who handles customs and where to collect the parcel. Post and couriers suit you when tracking matters. Rates and rules change, so check them on the official website of the service.
What you can and cannot send
Clothes, books, documents, souvenirs, dates and sweets in factory packaging usually arrive without trouble. Be more careful with everything else.
Duty free allowances in Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan change, so check the customs rules of the destination country before a large shipment.
- Never send drugs, weapons, flammable liquids or gas canisters.
- Avoid sending medicines with travellers, since a drug that is legal in Egypt may be banned elsewhere.
- Carriers accept power banks, batteries, perfume and aerosols only under special rules, or not at all.
- Cash, gold and perishable food are best not sent by any method.
- Antiques and anything that looks like an ancient artefact cannot leave Egypt without a permit.
How to pack your parcel
- Use a sturdy box or a thick bag that fits into a suitcase.
- Wrap fragile items in bubble wrap or clothes and put liquids in sealed bags.
- For a traveller, do not seal the box before you meet, as they need to see the contents.
- Write the name and phone number of the recipient and put a list of contents inside.
- Weigh the parcel beforehand to avoid arguments about weight.
How to deal with a traveller safely
The main rule is simple. Never accept a sealed box from a stranger. The traveller is responsible for everything in their luggage, and if customs finds something prohibited, they have to explain it. An honest sender opens the parcel at the meeting without being asked.
- Exchange names, the flight number and date, and agree on who will collect the parcel.
- Check documents when you meet, since both sides have a right to know who they are dealing with.
- Photograph the contents and the packed parcel and send the photos to the recipient.
- Agree on the price and when to pay in advance, and keep the terms in writing in your chat.
- If someone offers far more than usual for a small sealed box, say no.
